    Vintage Japanese & Chinese Wall Art Prints

    Woodblock prints and paintings from Japan, with a small set of Chinese costume studies. Kitagawa Utamaro's women of the Yoshiwara, Keisai Eisen's geisha and Hashiguchi Goyo's quiet early-twentieth-century figures sit beside the cranes of Kano Motonobu and Ogata Korin, a cymbidium orchid, cherry blossom, a pheasant on a branch, a mother monkey with her baby and The Great Wave off Kanagawa. The Chinese prints show emperors' robes, a commander and court costume in fine detail.

    The appeal is restraint: open space, a few strong lines and soft colour on a pale ground. They bring calm to a room without asking it to be themed.

    How to hang them

    The cranes and blossoms suit a bedroom, a reading corner or a hallway, hung singly or as a pair. Utamaro's tall portraits work well as a row of three above a low sideboard. Pair them with pale timber, linen and plenty of empty wall, and keep the frames simple.

    Each art print in this collection is available as a fine art Giclée print on premium 230gsm ultra-matte paper using archival inks, or as a mounted canvas — a premium imported 260gsm poly-cotton blend stretched over a 35mm Obeche timber frame. Sizes run A4 through to A0, unframed or framed in black, white, Light Oak Look or Dark Kiaat Look, and delivery is free anywhere in South Africa.
