    Vintage Map Wall Art Prints

Old maps and charts, drawn when the world was still being measured. There is Truschet and Hoyau's sixteenth-century plan of Paris, Carel Allard's map of Africa, Pieter Goos's sea chart of the entrance to the Channel and Albert van Kampen's ancient Italy. Samuel Augustus Mitchell's world map and George Washington Bacon's standard map of Europe bring the nineteenth century. For something lighter, there is a pictorial map of world wonders, a decorative map of Boston, Augusto Grossi's satirical Russian octopus and Johannes Buno's diagrams of solar eclipses.

Where our vintage landscapes paint a place, these chart it. The palettes are parchment, sepia and faded sea blue, with hand-tinted borders in soft red, green and ochre.

    How to hang them

A large map is at home in a study, a library corner or above a desk, where it is seen up close. The Paris plan or the world map holds a wall above a sofa or a console alone. Smaller charts hang well as a pair in a hallway. Black or Dark Kiaat Look frames suit the parchment tones, as they do across our vintage prints.

Each art print in this collection is available as a fine art Giclée print on premium 230gsm ultra-matte paper using archival inks, or as a mounted canvas — a premium imported 260gsm poly-cotton blend stretched over a 35mm Obeche timber frame. Sizes run A4 through to A0, unframed or framed in black, white, Light Oak Look or Dark Kiaat Look, and delivery is free anywhere in South Africa.
