Vintage Fern Wall Art Prints

Ferns had a moment in Victorian Britain that bordered on mania — collected, catalogued and drawn obsessively for decades. This collection is that impulse: Adiantum maidenhairs, Asplenium spleenworts, Polypodium, the antlered Platycerium, Woodsia and the sensitive fern, each recorded frond by frond. Where our vintage palm prints are single bold verticals, a fern is fine and repeating — something you read close up rather than across a room.

The palette barely leaves green: sage, olive and bottle against cream, warmed here and there by russet spotting under a frond or a gold-green leaflet. It is the quietest collection we carry, and that is exactly its use — a fern brings texture to a wall without introducing a colour, so it settles into a room that is already full of other things.

How to hang them

Ferns are the most gridable subject we sell. They were studied in series and they hang that way: four, six or nine in identical frames, evenly spaced, is the strongest arrangement here and it scales to a whole wall. Keep the mounts and frames the same so the eye reads the fronds and not the framing. A single fern works too, but give it a narrow wall — a passage, or the pier between two windows — where the detail is seen at arm’s length. Our vintage leaf prints mix in well if you want to build a larger grid.

Each art print in this collection is available as a fine art Giclée print on premium 230gsm ultra-matte paper using archival inks, or as a mounted canvas — a premium imported 260gsm poly-cotton blend stretched over a 35mm Obeche timber frame. Sizes run A4 through to A0, unframed or framed in black, white, light oak or dark kiaat.
