    Vintage Japanese Print Pairs

Japanese woodblock prints sold as ready-matched pairs. Women of the Edo period appear in all four pairs: Kitagawa Utamaro's portraits, a woman blowing a glass toy in a checked kimono, another in a wide hat tied with a red cord, and quieter figures in patterned robes.

The appeal is restraint: open space, a few strong lines and soft colour on a pale ground. Each pair is chosen to share a palette so the two prints read as one. For single prints, including cranes, cherry blossom and The Great Wave, see our vintage Japanese prints.

    How to hang them

Hang a pair side by side above a dining table, a console or a low sideboard, or either side of a doorway in a hallway. Pair them with pale timber, linen and plenty of empty wall, and keep the frames simple, in Light Oak Look or black with a white mount. For more matched sets, see our vintage bird pairs.

Each art print in this collection is available as a fine art Giclée print on premium 230gsm ultra-matte paper using archival inks, or as a mounted canvas — a premium imported 260gsm poly-cotton blend stretched over a 35mm Obeche timber frame. Sizes run A4 through to A0, unframed or framed in black, white, Light Oak Look or Dark Kiaat Look, and delivery is free anywhere in South Africa.
